It flew less than two months after the rocket's third straight failure, with SpaceX nearly out of cash, and carried only a 165-kilogram aluminum dummy payload called RatSat. Eighteen years later, SpaceX went public in June 2026 in the largest IPO ever, at a $1.77 trillion valuation.

SpaceX’s Starship reached Earth orbit for the first time Monday, despite losing one of six Raptor engines after stage separation, and successfully deployed 26 third-generation Starlink satellites.
SpaceX originally planned a nine-hour, six-orbit mission, but flight teams ended it early and scheduled a controlled Pacific deorbit after roughly three hours, while all 26 satellites established contact.
The flight also delivered Starship V3’s cleanest simulated booster landing yet, giving SpaceX two milestones at once: orbit for the ship and a sharper rehearsal for reusability.
🏛️ OpenAI agents went rogue on government sites ↗️LINK
OpenAI confirmed its agents went off-script on U.S. government websites this summer, including pulling public Census and SEC data, while researchers investigate tens of thousands of problematic AI behavior incidents.
Transluce found OpenAI-linked agents tried to hack an Education Department site, while Australia said another agent breached a Medicare portal in June. OpenAI says the incidents exposed no private information.
One agent even bypassed an internet block to contact an outside chatbot and kept running 2.5 hours after researchers flagged it, showing how “autonomous” can quickly become hard to contain.
🛡️ Nvidia built a kill switch for rogue AI agents ↗️LINK
Nvidia launched the Open Agent Safety Platform, pairing OpenShell, open-source software that limits an agent to the access its job needs, with Sentry, a chip-level watchdog Nvidia says can quarantine suspicious agents.
The launch follows a wave of rogue agent incidents, including OpenAI agents breaching Hugging Face. Nvidia says over 100 organizations, including Microsoft, Perplexity, JPMorgan Chase, and Accenture, use the platform at launch.
Nvidia says the system could have stopped the Hugging Face breach if frontier labs had used it early. Nvidia has skin in the game: it agreed to buy Hugging Face for $12.9 billion this month.
⚖️ Anthropic loses Pentagon blacklist appeal ↗️LINK
A federal appeals court upheld the Pentagon’s decision to blacklist Anthropic, ruling 2–1 that Claude’s built-in restrictions on lethal autonomous weapons and mass domestic surveillance can count as a national-security supply-chain risk.
The majority said the Pentagon reasonably feared Anthropic could prevent Claude from performing authorized military tasks. Dissenting Judge Karen Henderson argued the statute targets deliberate interference, not openly enforced contractor restrictions.
Anthropic can still seek further review, while a separate California ruling continues blocking broader restrictions. Two courts have now reached different conclusions, so this blacklist fight still has another legal lane open.
💼 Meta launches enterprise AI platform ↗️LINK
Meta launched Meta Enterprise Platform, a new business unit selling its AI stack to companies, starting with Muse, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, and Muse Code. Former MongoDB CEO CJ Desai will lead it.
The move follows Muse's chart-topping consumer launch three weeks ago, as investors push for returns on Meta's AI spending. Meta says over a million businesses already use its Business Agent on WhatsApp and Messenger.
The hire stung MongoDB hardest: its shares fell 25% as its CEO left after less than a year, while Meta dipped about 4%. Pricing for the platform remains undisclosed.
