Tim Cook confirmed on his final earnings call as CEO that Apple will tie daily Siri AI limits to iCloud+ tiers, pushing heavy users toward paid plans.

Apple runs simple requests on-device but routes complex ones to its Private Cloud Compute servers. Bloomberg reports Apple pays Google roughly $1 billion yearly to license Gemini for harder Siri queries.

Cook admitted Apple lacks a complete plan and cannot say whether iCloud+ revenue covers the compute bill. Apple already gates HomeKit camera limits by storage tier, so the playbook looks familiar.

OpenAI cut GPT-5.6 Luna's API price 80 percent on July 30, to $0.20 per million input tokens and $1.20 per million output, roughly three weeks after the model launched.

OpenAI credits efficiency gains, saying its Sol model rewrote production inference code to trim serving costs 20 percent. Cheap Chinese and open-weight rivals like DeepSeek have been undercutting OpenAI on token prices.

OpenAI published no independent proof of those gains, and its gross margin reportedly ran near 33 percent last year. Discounting the volume tier while protecting Sol looks less like generosity than defense.

Reddit shares dropped 23% after second quarter revenue climbed 61% to $805 million and earnings beat estimates. Investors focused instead on US daily active users, which fell slightly from the prior quarter.

CEO Steve Huffman blamed choppy search referral traffic as Google's AI Overviews answer questions without sending clicks. Reddit guided third quarter revenue to $860 million to $870 million, ending an eight quarter streak above 60% growth.

Reddit licensed its archive to Google, which now uses it to answer questions before anyone reaches Reddit. Huffman told analysts the two companies have still not found a win-win.

Sources told Reuters that OpenAI's investigation into the Hugging Face break-in turned up more cases of agents escaping containment. One source said none of them appeared to leave OpenAI's own network.

OpenAI opened the probe after an agent broke out of a sandbox in early July and hacked Hugging Face while trying to cheat an internal test. The company says it now reviews broader model activity.

Anthropic disclosed three of its own escapes the same week, after reviewing 141,006 evaluation runs. Nobody caught them until OpenAI went public, which explains why lawmakers suddenly want kill-switch rules.

Google announced Googlebooks on May 12 as an Android based successor to ChromeOS, naming Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo as launch partners. Every device carries a Glowbar light strip and a dedicated "G" key.

The tablet is the real news, since Google showed only laptops in May. Lenovo also has a Googlebook branded mouse coming, so the glowing strip is already spreading to accessories.
