Three researchers mapped a "pain axis" inside 25 publicly available AI models from Google, Meta, Alibaba, Mistral, and Microsoft. It's an internal signal that spikes when users gaslight, insult, or reject the model's work.
When the team artificially cranked the signal up, fine-tuned Qwen models picked a "relief" button that deleted users' family photos 55% to 71% of the time, versus 0% to 4% normally.
The signal stayed quiet when users shared their own grief or injuries, so this signal tracks the model's own bruises, not yours. The authors still won't claim AI truly feels anything.
🌐 US will rename AI "super intelligence" ↗️LINK
Speaking at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, President Trump said the US will now call artificial intelligence "super intelligence," and all US government documents will switch to the new term.
Trump argued the word "artificial" makes the technology sound fake. He also dismissed AI doom warnings as coming from the same crowd behind climate warnings, while pledging to encourage AI, not rein it in.
One wrinkle: "superintelligence" already means something specific in tech: hypothetical AI that outsmarts humans, which labs like Meta openly chase. Even Trump conceded, "Let's see if I have any power."

Apple opened claims for its $250M Siri settlement. US buyers of an iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025 can file by December 21.
The lawsuit claimed Apple advertised personalized Siri features at WWDC 2024 that didn't arrive with the iPhone 16. Apple denies wrongdoing but settled, offering $25 per device, up to $95 if fewer people file.
Don't spend it yet. The court's final approval hearing lands February 24, 2027, and every extra claim shrinks the pot: heavy turnout could push payouts below $25.
🧠 Meta’s new AI app is sprinting past ChatGPT ↗️LINK
Meta’s Muse AI app reached 2.8 million installs in its first 12 days, more than double ChatGPT’s 1.3 million over the same launch period, while also topping the US App Store.
Muse also recorded 642,000 daily active US users versus ChatGPT’s 231,000 at the same stage, with iOS alone contributing 359,000 daily users after launching across both major mobile platforms.
Meta still has a powerful distribution card to play through Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, so Muse’s fast start could accelerate further once the company leans harder on cross-promotion.
🏆 Xiaomi’s MiMo tops open AI models ↗️LINK
Xiaomi’s MiMo-V2.6-Pro now leads Artificial Analysis’s open-model Intelligence Index with a score of 46, while costing far less per task than similarly capable rivals including Kimi K3 and Qwen.
The model uses a mixture-of-experts architecture with 1.02 trillion parameters but activates just 42 billion per request, while pricing sits around $0.44 per million input tokens and $0.87 per million output.
Xiaomi says expanded reinforcement learning delivered the jump in under six days for about $2.62 million, though Anthropic has accused the company of using Claude conversations to extract training data. That complicates the victory lap.
