☀️ On this day: On August 24, 2011, Steve Jobs, 56 and gravely ill with pancreatic cancer, resigned as Apple CEO and named Tim Cook his successor. Rather than call a special board meeting, Jobs stepped down at a regularly scheduled one, arriving in a wheelchair to read his letter aloud, and he died six weeks later, on October 5. Apple was worth just under $350 billion that day; it is worth roughly $4.5 trillion now, and Cook steps down on September 1 this year, handing the job to hardware chief John Ternus.

OpenAI is pushing ChatGPT Work as a general-purpose agent for white-collar jobs, connecting AI to email, Slack, calendars, SaaS tools, and other workflows so it can complete multistep projects autonomously.
The challenge is adoption: 98% of OpenAI employees used Codex in June, but only 17% of organizational subscribers and under 1% of individual subscribers did, showing how far agents remain from mainstream use.
OpenAI believes simpler interfaces and stronger models can close that gap, but permissions, cost, reliability, and trust still matter when using an agent means handing it access to much of your digital life.
🛒 Apple tests AI shopping assistant in app store ↗️LINK
Apple started rolling out an AI shopping assistant to select Apple Store app users as an Early Preview. A chat icon now replaces the search icon in the bottom right corner.
The assistant answers questions about products and existing orders, with suggested prompts covering trade-in values, carrier offers, iPhone monthly payments, watch recommendations, and iPad lineup comparisons.
Apple's fine print warns the assistant may give inaccurate answers and that transcripts get retained for quality and fraud monitoring. A sales chatbot that might misstate the price is an interesting bet.
🔬 Lady Gaga’s startup gives AI living skin ↗️LINK
Lady Gaga-backed Outer Bio emerged from stealth with Yuna, a platform that keeps full-thickness human skin alive for four weeks and uses experiment data to help AI discover promising skincare compounds.
Yuna’s AI proposes compounds for specific skin processes, then learns from each test result. Co-founder Michael Polansky says the system cut discovery from roughly 18 months to one new candidate every six weeks.
Early research shows Yuna can reproduce known psoriasis and UVB-damage results, but the model still lacks blood flow and recruited immune cells, so its four-week skin remains an impressive biological stand-in.

YouTube is raising Premium prices by up to 17% across Europe and Asia. Individual plans in parts of Europe climb from €13.99 to €15.99, and Singapore memberships rise to S$15.98.
Some EU subscribers must actively accept the new price. One Romanian user has until October 10 to agree, or the subscription simply ends before the higher rate starts on October 12.
YouTube says the money supports creators and improves Premium. Meanwhile the free tier keeps getting longer unskippable ads, which makes the pitch for paying feel less like a choice.
💸 Nvidia AI server prices rising over 15% ↗️LINK
Bloomberg reports that Nvidia's biggest customers have learned servers with its AI chips will cost more than 15% more, starting with Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems shipping in early 2027.
A global DRAM and HBM shortage drives the increase, and the size varies by chip generation and memory configuration. Contract server builders passed the notices to Microsoft, Google, and Oracle.
Nvidia's own AI boom pushed memory makers toward HBM and created the crunch. Now the company that started the squeeze is billing its customers for it.
