Hand-picked news:

🎮 Nintendo sues U.S. government over tariffs ↗️LINK

  • Nintendo filed a lawsuit in the U.S. Court of International Trade seeking refunds for tariffs it paid under executive orders issued by President Donald Trump using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).

  • The case follows a Supreme Court ruling that the tariffs exceeded presidential authority, after the measures reportedly collected more than $200 billion in import duties from global businesses.

  • After the decision, Trump increased tariffs from 10% to 15%, prompting 24 U.S. states to file additional lawsuits arguing the move again oversteps presidential powers.

👓 Samsung confirms AI smart glasses ↗️LINK

  • Samsung confirmed its upcoming AI smart glasses, expected around 2026, will include a camera but no built-in screen, instead sending what the user sees to a connected Galaxy phone for AI analysis and feedback.

  • The approach keeps the glasses lightweight while the smartphone handles processing and displays information, contrasting with devices that pack the technology directly into the headset.

  • Samsung is entering a market dominated by Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses and may initially target enterprise users, aiming to compete by focusing on AI capabilities rather than advanced hardware.

🤖 Oracle to cut thousands of jobs as AI costs rise ↗️LINK

  • Oracle is preparing to cut thousands of jobs across several divisions as the company faces financial pressure from its massive spending on AI data center infrastructure.

  • Analysts expect Oracle’s cash flow to turn negative in the coming years while it invests heavily in data centers, with plans to raise about $50 billion through debt and equity to fund the expansion.

  • The company’s stock has dropped 54% since its September 2025 peak, and Oracle previously announced a restructuring plan that could cost up to $1.6 billion in severance and related expenses.

⚛️ Bill Gates’ company gets approval for next-gen nuclear reactor ↗️LINK

  • TerraPower, the nuclear energy startup founded by Bill Gates, received approval from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to build a next-generation reactor in Wyoming — the first commercial-scale advanced nuclear plant to receive such a federal permit.

  • The facility, expected to be completed by 2030, will be the first commercial reactor built in the U.S. in nearly a decade and is part of a broader push for nuclear power to support growing electricity demand, including from AI data centers.

  • TerraPower’s 345-megawatt Natrium reactor uses liquid sodium cooling and includes a molten salt energy storage system that can boost output to 500 megawatts during periods of high demand.

🎮 Microsoft’s next console will run both Xbox and PC games ↗️LINK

  • Microsoft’s upcoming console, codenamed Project Helix, is expected to support both Xbox and PC games, according to a statement from gaming executive Asha Sharma.

  • Sharma said the company will discuss Project Helix with developers and partners at the upcoming Game Developers Conference, though details on how PC game access will work remain unclear.

  • The move could signal a shift toward a Windows-based console platform, continuing Microsoft’s strategy of blending the Xbox ecosystem with PC gaming.

Yesterday’s Poll Result:

Should AI systems be limited in how “human-like” they act in conversations?

  • A. Yes, to avoid emotional dependency - 82%

  • B. No, realism improves user experience - 18% 🏆

Reader’s opinion:

“I think the best approach is somewhere in the middle. AI should communicate in a human-like way because it makes conversations clearer and easier to understand. Natural language and a bit of empathy improve the user experience and help people engage with the information. However, AI should not pretend to have emotions or form emotional bonds with users. When a system starts acting like it has feelings or tries to build a personal attachment, that can create unhealthy dependence and blur the line between a tool and a relationship. So in my view, AI should feel conversational and supportive, but remain transparent about what it is: a tool and an advisor, not a companion.”
