Hand-picked news:
🎬 Netflix to acquire Warner Bros. in historic $82.7B deal ↗️LINK
Netflix has struck an $82.7B agreement to acquire Warner Bros., financing $59B through major banks under “Project Noble,” with plans to preserve theatrical releases while projecting $2–3B in annual cost savings and offering WBD shareholders a mix of cash and Netflix stock.
Leadership from both companies framed the merger as a creative and strategic expansion — giving Netflix access to Warner Bros.’ vast franchises and studio capabilities while promising filmmakers more reach and audiences more content, though regulators are expected to scrutinize the deal heavily.
The acquisition positions Netflix as the dominant force of the streaming era, enabling WBD to spin off its linear networks by 2026 and reinforcing Wall Street’s view that Netflix’s long-term growth is driven by a constant flow of new, high-impact content.
🤑 Anthropic preps for IPO race with OpenAI ↗️LINK
Anthropic is laying early groundwork for a potential 2026 IPO, hiring Wilson Sonsini — the firm behind Google’s and LinkedIn’s listings — and building out internal processes under CFO Krishna Rao, who previously helped take Airbnb public.
The company is also raising massive private capital at a valuation above $300B, with Microsoft and Nvidia reportedly considering up to $15B in combined funding, while OpenAI prepares its own IPO that could value it at as much as $1T.
With both AI giants inching toward the public markets, investors are pushing for their pick to debut first, making whichever IPO hits the market a major test of whether today’s towering AI valuations can hold in an environment increasingly wary of a potential bubble.
⚖️ NYT sues Perplexity for copyright violations ↗️LINK
The New York Times filed a federal lawsuit accusing Perplexity of scraping its site, evading protections like robots.txt, and generating responses that allegedly reproduce NYT articles “verbatim or substantially similar,” despite repeated cease-and-desist notices.
The suit follows similar allegations from other publishers, including the Chicago Tribune, and echoes the NYT’s earlier copyright battle with OpenAI; it claims Perplexity’s outputs substitute for reading the original reporting, harming subscription and advertising revenue.
NYT is seeking damages and a permanent injunction to stop the alleged practices, while Perplexity’s previous attempts to appease publishers — such as its ad-revenue-sharing program — have not prevented escalating legal action.
🧠 Gemini 3 Deep Think launches in the Gemini app ↗️LINK
Google is rolling out Gemini 3 Deep Think mode to AI Ultra subscribers, offering a major boost in reasoning for complex math, science, and logic tasks through advanced parallel-hypothesis exploration.
The model posts industry-leading benchmark results, hitting 41.0% on Humanity’s Last Exam without tools and 45.1% on ARC-AGI-2 with code execution, building on the strong performance of previous Deep Think variants recognized at IMO and ICPC competitions.
Users can access the new mode now by choosing “Deep Think” in the prompt bar and selecting Gemini 3 Pro in the model dropdown within the Gemini app.
🎨 AI finds its way into Apple’s top apps of the year ↗️LINK
Apple announced its 2025 App Store Award winners, highlighting top apps like Tiimo (iPhone App of the Year) and Detail (iPad App of the Year), both of which heavily integrate AI for planning, scheduling, and automated video editing.
Several Cultural Impact winners also leaned on AI, including StoryGraph’s ML-powered book recommendations and Be My Eyes’ visual-description assistant for blind and low-vision users, while Strava’s Apple Watch App of the Year featured an AI workout-insight tool.
Across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Vision Pro, Apple Watch, and Apple TV categories, Apple recognized 17 standout apps and games, underscoring how deeply AI is now embedded in mainstream app experiences even without a dedicated “AI App of the Year” category.
