💸 Five tech giants commit over $3T to AI ↗️LINK
Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, and Oracle have committed over $3 trillion to future AI infrastructure, including data centers, energy, equipment, and long-term leases, according to Bloomberg.
Alphabet leads with more than $1 trillion in commitments, almost eight times last year's level. Meta follows with over $800 billion, with nearly half going toward leases that haven't started.
Future leases account for $1.3 trillion, with some spanning 30 years. The spending has pushed Alphabet and Meta into negative free cash flow, while Gartner warns much of it may never pay off.
🏢 Claude adds employee AI usage reports ↗️LINK
Anthropic launched Smart Reports for Claude Enterprise on October 28, giving managers AI-generated summaries of how employees use Claude, including spending, productivity bottlenecks, and personal or off-topic conversations.
The feature analyzes conversation samples from up to 28 days, tracks off-topic sessions and their costs, and hides employee identities. Enterprise owners must enable it, and sensitive topics receive additional protections.
Anthropic says companies shouldn't use these reports to judge employee performance. But with managers now getting AI-generated insights into workplace chats, even off-topic conversations have become another business metric.
🛡️ OpenAI tightens ChatGPT weapons rules ↗️LINK
OpenAI will restrict practical weapons and security-system information for ChatGPT users under 18, even when a question looks harmless. For everyone, ChatGPT will also end chats where someone fixates on violence.
OpenAI frames it as a violence-prevention push. The company referred more than 200 potential violent threats to law enforcement in Q3 2026 and will publish a safety report every six months starting early 2027.
The timing stands out. Weeks ago, Common Sense Media rated ChatGPT for Teens an “Unacceptable Risk” over missed parent alerts, and OpenAI now plans to notify parents when it pauses a teen’s account.
🛰️ Google satellite sends first AI response ↗️LINK
Google's Project Suncatcher satellite generated its first AI response in orbit, using onboard TPU chips and the Gemma 4 model to write a space-themed haiku and transmit it back to Earth.
Google launched the prototype on October 1 to explore orbital AI computing. It also tested limericks and satellite telemetry, with upcoming experiments focused on chip reliability under radiation and extreme temperatures.
Google's first orbital AI achievement is a poem rather than a data center breakthrough. Its planned pair of connected satellites in 2027 should offer a tougher test of the idea.
🤖 Trump puts foreign robots on notice ↗️LINK
President Trump signed a proclamation on October 28 declaring imported robots, industrial machinery and their parts a national security threat. It orders new trade talks but imposes no tariffs yet.
The move follows a year-long Commerce Department investigation that found US defense production of missiles, aircraft and ships leans on imported robots, and flagged cybersecurity risks from foreign-sourced machines.
Trading partners get 180 days to strike deals before tariffs come into play. The catch: US firms don’t build enough robots to meet demand, leaving buyers like GM, Ford and Tesla exposed.

Yesterday’s Poll Result:
Would you choose a driverless robo taxi if it were cheaper than a regular Uber?
A) Yes - 68% 🏆
B) No - 32%
