☀️ On this day: On April 11, 1970, Apollo 13 launched from Kennedy Space Center at 2:13 p.m. EST with commander Jim Lovell (age 42), Jack Swigert, and Fred Haise bound for the Moon. Two days later, a routine fan activation caused a short circuit and explosion in an oxygen tank, rupturing both tanks and venting their contents to space. The crew never landed, but all three returned safely on April 17 — NASA called it a "successful failure".

Gallup polled 1,500 Gen Z members aged 14 to 29 and found weekly AI usage barely moved year-over-year, while those who believe AI helps them learn faster dropped from 53% to 46%.

Google is rolling out "notebooks" inside the Gemini app — shared knowledge bases that let users organize chats, upload files, and give Gemini custom instructions, all synced with NotebookLM.
Any source added in Gemini automatically appears in NotebookLM and vice versa, letting users move between Gemini's chat and search tools and NotebookLM's video and infographic features without re-uploading anything.

Four astronauts splashed down off Southern California on April 11 after a 694,000-mile mission that took them farther from Earth than any human since Apollo 13 in 1970, reaching 252,756 miles from home.
The crew included the first Black astronaut, first woman, and first non-American to fly a lunar mission, while the Orion capsule survived 2,760°C re-entry temps — a critical test after its heat shield underperformed in the 2022 uncrewed flight.
Artemis II was explicitly designed to beat China to a permanent lunar presence, giving the mission a Cold War energy that NASA's press releases are too polite to fully acknowledge.

Tesla closed its eighth consecutive losing week with its stock near $340, down 25% since January, as the company posted its worst-ever production-to-delivery gap: 408,000 vehicles built against 358,000 delivered in Q1 2026.
JPMorgan analyst Ryan Brinkman kept his $145 price target, calling Tesla's valuation a "fundamental disconnect" propped up by unproven robotaxi and humanoid robot projects, while unsold inventory hit a record 164,000 units globally.
BYD nearly doubled Tesla's output in Q1 and has overtaken it in 20+ markets, and Rivian just launched a $45,000 SUV directly targeting Model Y buyers — Tesla is getting squeezed from both ends.
