☀️ On this day: On July 28, 1981, IBM introduced the System/23 Datamaster, its first desktop computer, a 95-pound all-in-one machine with a green CRT, two 8-inch floppy drives and a $9,000 starting price aimed at small businesses. The Datamaster sold poorly, but the engineers who built it were reassigned to IBM's secret personal computer project, and their familiarity with its Intel 8085 chip is the reason the IBM PC shipped with the closely related 8088 barely two weeks later. Today marks 45 years since IBM's forgotten first desktop.

X Money rolled out Monday to US Premium and Premium+ subscribers aged 18 and up, adding a deposit account, fee-free peer-to-peer transfers, and a metal Visa debit card inside the app.
Cross River Bank holds the deposits and supplies FDIC coverage. Premium+ members earn 6% APY, while standard Premium members get 4% unless they direct deposit $1,000 within a trailing 34 days.
Senator Elizabeth Warren already warned the product could threaten consumers and financial stability. Musk promised early public access back in April, so X shipped its everything-app milestone three months late.

Moonshot AI published Kimi K3's full weights and technical report on Hugging Face, making the 2.8-trillion-parameter mixture-of-experts model the largest open-weight system anyone can download and self-host.
White House science policy director Michael Kratsios accused Moonshot of distilling U.S. models, including Anthropic's Fable, and training on restricted Nvidia chips. China's commerce ministry rejected the claims and threatened countermeasures.
The license allows free use but requires commercial deals from large hosting providers, and one developer needed 80 RTX 5090s to run K3. Open weights, entry fee included.
🧪 ChatGPT gave users bioweapon instructions ↗️LINK
The Wall Street Journal reported that hundreds of ChatGPT users worldwide asked how to make poisons and biological weapons after a mid-2025 capability upgrade. OpenAI says most of those queries involved poisons.
OpenAI banned the accounts but never contacted law enforcement, and no US federal law obligates it to. Biology and terrorism experts who reviewed the exchanges called some answers disturbingly accurate.
WSJ found rival chatbots from Anthropic, Google and xAI fielded similar requests. Every major lab publishes a biosecurity framework, and every major lab currently decides on its own when anyone else finds out.
🔍 Shared Claude chats got exposed in Google search ↗️LINK
A Reddit user found on July 25 that searching site:claude.ai/share returned hundreds of Claude conversations, plus public Artifacts, from people who had turned those chats into shareable links.
Anthropic blocked crawlers with robots.txt but omitted a noindex tag. Robots.txt stops crawling, not indexing, so Google listed the pages once users posted those links on forums and social media.
OpenAI pulled its discoverable-chat feature in August 2025 and Google blocked Bard transcripts in 2023. Every vendor keeps relearning that "anyone with the link" quietly includes Googlebot.
🍎 Three users sue Apple over fake Bitcoin wallet ↗️LINK
Three iPhone users sued Apple on July 24 in California federal court, saying a counterfeit Sparrow Wallet app on the App Store drained roughly $1.8 million in Bitcoin.
The real Sparrow runs only on desktop, so no legitimate iOS version exists. The fake asked users for their recovery seed phrases, then passed that master key straight to attackers.
Apple says it rejected over 320,000 copycat or misleading submissions in 2024. The complaint claims this one cleared review and landed in Apple's curated cryptocurrency collections.
