Greetings! Your latest quick tech update is here:

☀️ On this day: On June 2, 1966, NASA's Surveyor 1 became the first American spacecraft to make a soft landing on the Moon, touching down in the Ocean of Storms about 63 hours after launch. Engineers had expected to need many attempts, so success on the first try came as a shock, arriving just four months after the Soviet Luna 9. It went on to return over 11,000 images and proved the surface could hold a lander, clearing the way for Apollo 11 three years later.

Hand-picked news:

🚀 Anthropic files confidentially for an IPO ↗️LINK

  • Anthropic, the lab behind Claude, confidentially filed a draft registration with the SEC for a proposed IPO. The company hasn't set share counts or pricing, saying the offering depends on market conditions.

  • The filing lands days after Anthropic raised $65 billion in a Series H round that pushed its valuation to $965 billion. Its revenue run-rate recently passed $47 billion, up from $9 billion at the end of 2025.

  • Anthropic enters a packed IPO season alongside SpaceX's $2 trillion target and a looming OpenAI listing. Not bad for a 2021 startup that former OpenAI employees launched as the field's perpetual underdog.

⚖️ Florida sues OpenAI over ChatGPT and crimes ↗️LINK

  • Florida's attorney general sued OpenAI and Sam Altman, alleging ChatGPT links to violent crimes. It's the first state-level lawsuit of its kind, and it ties the chatbot to a mass shooting at Florida State University.

  • The 83-page complaint claims OpenAI ignored safety warnings and rushed a dangerous product to millions. It names children, vulnerable users, and professionals as victims and spans suicides, stalking, murders, and addiction.

  • OpenAI denied responsibility for the FSU shooting and hasn't commented on the suit. With families nationwide already filing similar cases, a state government weighing in raises the legal stakes considerably.

🧠 China approves world's first invasive brain chip ↗️LINK

  • China approved NEO, a coin-size brain implant from Shanghai startup Neuracle and Tsinghua University, making it the world's first invasive brain-computer interface available beyond clinical trials for paralyzed patients.

  • NEO's sensors rest on the brain's protective membrane rather than penetrating the cortex like Neuralink's N1, lowering hemorrhage risk. That safer design, plus Beijing's expedited pathway, sped approval past US rivals.

  • Days after approval, China slotted NEO into its health insurance system and named brain interfaces a key national industry. One expert notes Western patients hit an "ick factor" that Chinese patients largely skip.

🕵️ Hackers tricked Meta AI to hijack Instagrams ↗️LINK

  • Instagram fixed a flaw that let hackers hijack accounts by tricking Meta's own AI support chatbot into granting access. Victims include the Obama-era White House handle and a U.S. Space Force chief master sergeant.

  • A video on X showed the method: hackers used a VPN to spoof a target's location, then asked Meta AI to add a new email, fed it the verification code, and reset the password to seize the account.

  • Spokesperson Andy Stone said the issue is now fixed, though Meta won't say how many accounts got hit. The support bot built to help users turned into the single weakest link in the chain.

🤖 NVIDIA launches new tools for physical AI ↗️LINK

  • NVIDIA unveiled a broad set of physical AI technologies at GTC Taipei, including Cosmos 3, an open foundation model, a reference humanoid robot, open-source robotics tools, and AI semiconductor work with TSMC.

  • Cosmos 3 handles text, images, video, ambient sound, and actions in one system, with Super and Nano versions for robotics and faster inference. NVIDIA claims it tops several open-model benchmarks for world generation and vision.

  • The Isaac GR00T humanoid platform already has Stanford, ETH Zurich, and UC San Diego signed up. Jensen Huang says the "big bang of physical AI" is near, and NVIDIA clearly plans to sell the whole stack.
