Hand-picked news:
📵 TikTok’s ‘addictive’ design breaks EU rules ↗️LINK
EU regulators say TikTok relies on addictive design features like infinite scroll, which push users into compulsive behaviour and do not properly protect children and teenagers.
The Commission found TikTok’s safety tools weak, saying screen-time warnings are easy to ignore and parental controls take too much effort and technical skill to use effectively.
TikTok strongly rejected the findings and plans to fight them, but the ongoing investigation could eventually lead to major design changes and fines of up to 6% of the company’s global annual revenue.
🧠 AI model can read and diagnose a brain MRI in seconds ↗️LINK
Researchers at the University of Michigan developed an AI model called Prima that can analyze a brain MRI in seconds, diagnosing neurological conditions with up to 97.5% accuracy and judging how urgent treatment is.
The system was trained on more than 200,000 MRI studies along with patient histories, allowing it to work like a radiologist by combining images with clinical context and prioritizing serious cases like strokes or brain hemorrhages.
While still early-stage, the researchers say Prima could reduce delays, ease radiologist shortages, and eventually be adapted to other medical imaging like X-rays, mammograms, and ultrasounds.
🚘 Apple is bringing AI chatbots to CarPlay ↗️LINK
Apple is working on ways to support AI chatbot apps like ChatGPT inside CarPlay, according to Bloomberg, which would let drivers talk directly to AI assistants while in their cars.
CarPlay mirrors apps from an iPhone onto a car’s infotainment screen and already supports music, messages, navigation, and Siri, while the newer CarPlay Ultra also controls dashboard displays and some vehicle settings.
Adding chatbot apps could allow services like Google’s Gemini or Anthropic’s Claude to work in the car, potentially competing with Siri for more advanced conversations and requests.
📺 YouTube tops $60 billion in annual revenue ↗️LINK
YouTube generated more than $60 billion in revenue in 2025 from ads and subscriptions, making it bigger than Netflix and larger than every entertainment company except Disney.
Advertising and subscriptions both grew, with YouTube posting $11.38 billion in ad revenue in Q4 and passing 325 million paid subscriptions across services like YouTube Premium and YouTube TV.
The platform is leaning into AI and new formats, with Shorts reaching 200 billion daily views, more creator AI tools rolling out, and new YouTube TV features and lower-cost plans launching in 2026.
📱 NASA will let astronauts take smartphones to space ↗️LINK
NASA will now allow astronauts on Crew-12 and Artemis II to bring smartphones with them to space, letting crews more easily capture and share photos and videos with family and the public.
Administrator Jared Isaacman said the change gives astronauts better tools to document special moments, replacing reliance on bulky DSLR cameras for high-quality images.
While phones have taken photos in orbit before, Artemis II could deliver the first smartphone images from lunar orbit, marking NASA’s first crewed Moon mission since Apollo 17.
