☀️ On this day: On August 12, 1960, NASA launched Echo 1 from Cape Canaveral, a 100-foot Mylar balloon that inflated in orbit and bounced radio signals between ground stations, carrying a prerecorded message from President Eisenhower hours after liftoff. The satellite had no transmitter of its own and worked purely as a mirror, and the horn antenna Bell Labs built to track it later picked up the cosmic microwave background, earning a Nobel Prize. Echo 1 stayed up until May 24, 1968, when sunlight pressure pushed it back into the atmosphere.

📸 Apple is testing a way to verify iPhone photos ↗️LINK
9to5Mac and MacRumors found code in iOS 27 beta 5 for Apple Reference Image, a system that stamps provenance data onto photos at capture so users can prove an iPhone shot them.
Tapping a Reference badge sends sensor signatures, capture time, and hardware IDs to Apple's Private Cloud Compute servers, which confirm the sensor took the shot and return a copy with a unique ID.
Apple plans to leave this off by default, and only shots taken in Reference mode carry the data. Every normal iPhone photo stays exactly as unprovable as it is today.

Facebook opened its Creator Studio app to all iOS creators in the US and Canada on Wednesday. The free app gives creators AI-generated growth tips, performance insights, and comment management in one place.
An AI assistant answers plain questions like when to post or what commenters are saying. A separate tool surfaces comments worth a reply and drafts responses in the creator's own voice.
Meta killed the original Creator Studio in 2023 and folded it into Business Suite. It returns as one of five standalone apps Meta has shipped since April, alongside Forum, Instants, Pocket, and StoryKit.
🤖 SpaceXAI launches Grok Bot ↗️LINK
SpaceXAI launched Grok Bot, a beta app where AI agents get their own cloud computer, sign into the tools you already use, and finish multi-step jobs without supervision.
Grok Bot reaches SuperGrok Heavy, Cursor Ultra, and Cursor Teams Premium subscribers on desktop and iOS. Users can run several Bots at once, with a chief of staff managing specialists.
The macOS installer downloads from Cursor's own servers, and the file path still reads "sand," the internal codename. SpaceX has not even closed that $60 billion acquisition yet.
📍 Google launches the Pixel Tag ↗️LINK
Google announced the Pixel Tag at Made by Google on Wednesday, a $29 Bluetooth tracker that hooks into Android's Find Hub network so you can locate keys, bags, and luggage.
Ultra Wideband powers precision finding with directional cues out to 50 meters. A replaceable CR2032 battery lasts about a year, and you can ring the tag from a Pixel Watch.
Google designed the Pixel Tag for keychains and bags but left out a hole to attach it to anything. A separate keychain loop handles that, exactly like AirTag.
🎵 Spotify will label AI artists starting in September ↗️LINK
Spotify said Tuesday it will add an "AI Persona" badge to artist profiles whose identity looks AI-generated, starting mid-September. Badges will show on profiles, in search, and on playlist track rows.
Artists can self-disclose through Spotify for Artists as of Tuesday, but Spotify will also review names and images itself, beginning with profiles that clear set audience thresholds. Flagged artists can appeal.
The badge judges the profile, not the songs. Spotify still hosts AI music, runs an AI DJ, and just licensed AI remixes with Universal, so what gets buried depends on the face, not the music.

“No. A watermark flag shows where text came from. It does not show who did the thinking. Most of my AI use is editing: tightening my own prompts, organizing my thoughts, cleaning up wording in emails and presentations. Treating a flag as proof punishes students for using a writing tool, and watermarks degrade the moment text gets paraphrased or rewritten, so the signal is not reliable enough to accuse someone with.”

Although we should be able to distinguish between people who copy and paste AI results they get when they paste the question into an AI chat box, and those who just use AI to correct their grammar. Also, we should know those who use AI to learn. Because the first set of people is the most dangerous in society. They don't verify AI's answer. This could be dangerous if their answers were implemented.”
