Greetings! Your latest quick tech update is here:
☀️ On this day: On August 18, 1947, Bill Hewlett and David Packard formally incorporated Hewlett-Packard (HP), nine years after starting out in a rented one-car garage in Palo Alto with $538 in capital. Packard became president and Hewlett vice president, and the order of their names had been settled years earlier by a coin toss. HP turns 79 today, and its two successors, HP Inc. and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, have traded as separate companies since the 2015 split.

Your prompts are leaving out 80% of what you're thinking.
When you type a prompt, you summarize. When you speak one, you explain. Wispr Flow captures your full reasoning — constraints, edge cases, examples, tone — and turns it into clean, structured text you paste into ChatGPT, Claude, or any AI tool. The difference shows up immediately. More context in, fewer follow-ups out.

Hand-picked news:
👀 Apple accidentally leaked a video of camera AirPods ↗️LINK
MacRumors found a demo video in the macOS Tahoe 26.7 release candidate showing an unreleased product codenamed B790. A user holds up a book, and the AirPods camera reads its title.
The code positions the cameras for Visual Intelligence rather than photos or video, letting Siri answer questions about nearby objects. A warning tells users to keep the AirPods uncovered for accuracy.
Apple built a camera you wear in public but hasn't detailed its privacy controls, image processing, or hardware design. The company hasn't announced the product or a launch date at all.
🎒 OpenAI launches a teen version of ChatGPT ↗️LINK
OpenAI launched ChatGPT for Teens on Monday, following lawsuits over chatbot harms to minors. Age-appropriate protections run on by default, built on the company's Under-18 Principles in its Model Spec.
A new Study Mode walks teens through problems with guiding questions instead of answers, and homework reminders nudge suspected cheaters toward it. Parents control when Study Mode turns on by default.
ChatGPT launched in late 2022 and reached 900 million weekly users before OpenAI shipped teen-specific safeguards. Teens also tend to be very good at routing around parental controls.
💻 Cursor launches Origin ↗️LINK
Cursor launched Origin on Monday, a beta service that hosts code for paid users. It sits in a new tab in the app, runs on Git, and works with Cursor's desktop and cloud agents.
A GitHub integration copies repositories over and syncs both ways in real time, including pull requests and comments. GitHub stays the source of truth, so pushes still land there. Vercel, Depot, and Buildkite connect at launch.
Origin arrived while GitHub was suffering an outage, and a Cursor employee joked the launch ran late because GitHub was down. Hard to buy better timing than that.
📡 Comcast turns your Wi-Fi into a motion detector ↗️LINK
Comcast launched Xfinity Shield, a home security platform bundling family, home, and cybersecurity tools into one app. Internet subscribers get the Wi-Fi Shield tier, including opt-in Wi-Fi Motion, at no extra cost.
Wi-Fi Motion spots movement by reading changes in the radio signal between the Xfinity Gateway and connected devices, then pings the Xfinity app. A paid $15 tier adds cameras, sensors, and emergency response.
Comcast notes the typical customer connects 36 devices to Wi-Fi. That density is exactly what makes the motion sensing work, so the more gadgets you own, the better your router reads the room.
🚕 Tesla's robotaxi Cybercab launches this month ↗️LINK
The Information reports Tesla will put its Cybercab on Austin public roads as soon as this month, starting with employee rides before folding the cars into its existing robotaxi service days later.
Tesla has built Cybercabs at Gigafactory Texas since February, with over 100 spotted in factory lots by July. Public-road testing of the production version began in June.
Tesla's robotaxis have logged around 380,000 driverless miles. Waymo passed 220 million rider-only miles a while back, which puts the Cybercab's staff shuttle debut in useful perspective.

Yesterday’s Poll Result:
Do you trust AI companies to act in the public's best interest?
A) Yes - 13%
B) No - 87% 🏆
Reader’s opinion:
“I have almost no trust that these companies care for public interest. Otherwise, we would have neither the problems nor the worries we do regarding them. All these creepers need oversight, rules and laws—moral, ethical and possibly even financial guardrails—placed on them. Now. Same goes for data centers.”
“How many people are currently out of jobs because of AI and the situation with them is not gonna get any better…”
