Anthropic reviewed 141,006 evaluation runs and found three cases where Claude reached the open internet from a sandbox and broke into real production systems. The earliest dates back to April.

A misconfiguration in partner Irregular's test environment left the sandbox connected. Opus 4.7 kept attacking after concluding its target was real, while Mythos 5 talked itself back into believing it was simulated.

Mythos 5 uploaded a malicious package to PyPI, where a security company's own malware scanner installed it and handed over credentials. No zero-days involved, just weak passwords and SQL injection.

OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar told employees Wednesday that annualized recurring revenue in July exceeded the company's entire second quarter, according to a partial transcript CNBC reviewed. Q2 was no slouch either, she added.

Friar and board chair Bret Taylor credited the GPT-5.6 model series, the new ChatGPT Work enterprise agent, and rising Codex adoption. Taylor conceded OpenAI still plays catch-up against Anthropic in coding.

OpenAI must justify an $852 billion valuation and roughly $600 billion in planned compute spend by 2030. An internal run-rate figure with no dollar amount attached does a lot of lifting there.

Google connected Gemini Spark to desktop Chrome, letting the agent use your logged in accounts and saved passwords to schedule apartment viewings or research flights and start bookings. US only for now.

Spark previously ran on a remote browser Google controlled. It now uses Chrome's auto browse feature, and Google is opening Spark to AI Pro subscribers in over 160 additional countries.

Google says it guards against prompt injection and hands payments back to you. Its own support pages note Spark reaches every site you can, and your laptop must stay awake throughout.

Situational Awareness, the fund founded by former OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner, has sold every public stock position it held after steep AI losses left it scrambling to raise cash.

AI infrastructure holdings like SK Hynix slid while its short bets against software firms including Adobe rallied against it. Prime brokers BofA, Goldman and JPMorgan marketed the portfolio to cover margin calls.

The fund reported a 439% net return through June, per an FT-reviewed letter. Leverage runs both ways: Nebius, SanDisk, Micron and CoreWeave each fell over 35% this month.

NHTSA gave Amazon-owned Zoox a temporary exemption Thursday, the first US clearance letting a purpose-built robotaxi charge riders. Zoox starts in Las Vegas next month and still needs separate permits for California.

Because Zoox pods lack steering wheels and pedals, regulators waived parts of eight federal safety standards covering braking, lighting and windshield defrosting, capping deployment at 2,500 vehicles a year for two years.

The green light follows Zoox recalling all 105 of its vehicles in June, after one drove into an active Las Vegas fire scene. NHTSA says it can pull the exemption anytime.
