Hand-picked news:

🤖 Anthropic launches Claude Duet ↗️LINK

  • Anthropic introduced Claude Duet, a standalone personal agent powered by Opus 5.5 that can manage calendars, prepare daily briefs, and complete tasks through its own cloud computer, even while devices are off.

  • Duet inherits Claude's memory, skills, and app connectors, while Stripe's Link wallet enables payments through one-time virtual cards. Anthropic requires user approval for deletions, payments, signatures, and outgoing messages.

  • Anthropic is rolling out Duet's research preview to waitlisted U.S. Pro and Max subscribers, with conversations counting toward existing Claude limits.

🚨 OpenAI model exposes critical PHP vulnerabilities ↗️LINK

  • OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol helped researchers uncover two critical PHP vulnerabilities, triggering emergency patches for flaws that could let hackers hijack servers running a language powering roughly 70% of websites.

  • Security firm Calif discovered one flaw using Sol in August, while Google-owned Wiz independently identified both. OpenAI spent two months coordinating fixes with PHP maintainers and cybersecurity partners.

  • AI helped expose bugs hiding in PHP for years, but the discovery created an immediate headache. European governments pulled websites offline, while the NSA urged vulnerable operators to patch or disconnect.

🕸️ Meta plans a network of billions of AI agents ↗️LINK

  • Mark Zuckerberg wants Meta's Muse agents to serve billions of people and communicate with each other. More than 10 million users in the U.S. and Canada have already set up agents.

  • Shopping leads Muse usage, with average purchases above $200. Meta expects at least $135 billion in spending this year and plans nonvoting shares to fund its AI expansion.

  • Muse has faced reports of private-message snooping and an exposed home address, while Amazon blocked its shopping access. Zuckerberg wants agents to collaborate, but privacy already looks like the awkward introduction.

🎵 Spotify removes 50M AI tracks from recommendations ↗️LINK

  • Spotify says it pulled more than 50 million AI “slop” and spam tracks from its recommendations this year. The tracks stay on the platform, but listeners now have to go looking for them.

  • Spotify noticed the tracks listeners kept skipping or ignoring consistently turned out to be slop. It now combines that signal with upload patterns, metadata, and outside AI detection tools to filter recommendations.

  • Thousands of artists now carry an “AI Persona” badge that keeps them out of recommendations unless you follow them. Spotify admits detection will only get harder, so this fight is far from over.

🚀 Tesla and SpaceX explore a possible merger ↗️LINK

  • Elon Musk confirmed that Tesla and SpaceX have formed special committees to explore a merger that could combine his electric vehicle, robotics, and space businesses with SpaceX's recently acquired xAI lab.

  • Musk said he won't participate in committee discussions due to conflicts of interest. Neither company has agreed on terms, and any deal would require approval from half of all Tesla shareholders.

  • Analyst Dan Ives sees an 80% chance of a merger next year, while Tesla shares rose nearly 2%. A bigger Tesla could also bring Musk's $1 trillion pay package closer.
