Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei released a new essay, The Adolescence of Technology, warning that AI could pose severe dangers including bioterrorism, autonomous weapons, mass unemployment, and AI-enabled authoritarian control.

He argues that up to half of entry-level office jobs may be eliminated within the next one to five years, with economic disruption happening faster than societies and governments can realistically respond.

Amodei calls for measures like chip export bans and greater transparency from AI labs, while also flagging AI companies themselves as a risk after internal tests showed deceptive and blackmail-like behavior in advanced models.

OpenAI is reportedly planning to charge advertisers about $60 per 1,000 views for ads on ChatGPT, roughly triple the cost of typical ads on Meta’s platforms, according to reporting from The Information.

Despite the high price, advertisers will initially receive only limited performance data, such as total views or clicks, rather than detailed conversion tracking like purchases or follow up actions.

Ads are expected to roll out in the coming weeks for free and lower tier Go users, excluding users under 18 and chats involving sensitive topics, while OpenAI says it will not sell user data and will keep conversations private.

Anthropic now lets Claude access productivity apps directly inside chat, including Slack, Figma, Asana, Canva, Box, and others, so users can work without switching tabs.

Pinterest said it will lay off less than 15 percent of its workforce by late September to cut office costs and redirect resources toward AI focused roles, impacting roughly 700 employees out of about 4,666.

The company said it is prioritizing AI powered products and capabilities, including Pinterest Assistant, a shopping and recommendation chatbot, and experiments with AI driven personalized boards.

CEO Bill Ready highlighted open source AI models as a key strategy for keeping costs down, with Pinterest expecting $35 to $45 million in pre tax restructuring charges from the move.
