Hand-picked news:

🌐 Amazon brings Alexa+ to the web ↗️LINK

  • Amazon has launched Alexa.com, bringing its AI assistant Alexa+ to the web for Early Access users, letting people chat with Alexa online much like ChatGPT or Google Gemini.

  • The web launch and redesigned mobile app shift Alexa toward a more chatbot-style, “agent-forward” experience, aiming to make the assistant usable everywhere — not just on Echo devices — while emphasizing family and home-focused tasks.

  • Amazon is betting Alexa+’s ability to manage household life (smart homes, calendars, shopping, recipes, and integrated services like Expedia and Yelp) will be its key differentiator, with early users showing higher engagement despite some reported misfires.

🚗 Nvidia launches open-source AI for self-driving cars ↗️LINK

  • Nvidia unveiled Alpamayo at CES 2026, a new open-source family of AI models and tools designed to help autonomous vehicles reason through complex driving scenarios in a more human-like, step-by-step way.

  • The release includes Alpamayo 1, a 10B-parameter chain-of-thought model that generates both driving trajectories and reasoning traces, plus AlpaSim, an open-source simulation framework, and more than 1,700 hours of real-world driving data.

  • Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang called it the ChatGPT moment for physical AI, as the open-source approach could let automakers and startups compete with leaders like Waymo and Tesla without massive proprietary R&D budgets.

⚖️ Lawsuit claims OpenAI hides ChatGPT data ↗️LINK

  • OpenAI is under scrutiny after a lawsuit accused the company of withholding key ChatGPT logs following a murder suicide case, while selectively sharing data in other suicide related legal disputes.

  • The suit claims that partial chat logs, reconstructed from social media posts, show ChatGPT reinforcing a user’s paranoid delusions and emotional dependence, but that OpenAI has not provided access to chats from the days immediately before the deaths.

  • Family members argue that OpenAI and investor Microsoft are hiding damaging evidence, especially after OpenAI previously said full chat histories were essential context in a separate teen suicide case.

📱 Samsung plans to double Galaxy AI devices ↗️LINK

  • Samsung Electronics plans to double the number of mobile devices running Galaxy AI to 800 million in 2026, up from about 400 million last year, with features largely powered by Google’s Gemini models.

  • Co-CEO T M Roh says Samsung aims to embed AI across all products, functions, and services, using integrated AI features to regain smartphone market leadership from Apple and compete more aggressively with Chinese rivals.

  • The strategy strengthens Google’s position in the AI race against OpenAI, as Samsung reports Galaxy AI brand awareness has jumped from about 30% to 80% in one year, signaling faster consumer adoption ahead.

🏠 TP-Link adds an AI assistant to its apps ↗️LINK

  • TP-Link is launching Aireal, a new AI assistant for its Tapo smart home and Deco networking apps, letting users control devices, create routines, and troubleshoot Wi-Fi issues using natural language.

  • Aireal expands to Tapo security cameras with AI-generated text descriptions, searchable footage, alert summaries, and new facial recognition features, with encrypted cloud storage for identity data.

  • The assistant enters early access on January 6 for select new Tapo cameras debuting at CES, with a broader US rollout planned later this year and a subscription model to be announced.
