Hand-picked news:

📉 AI sell-off wipes $3 trillion from S&P 500 ↗️LINK

  • A massive AI stock sell-off erased roughly $3 trillion in S&P 500 market value on Thursday, sending chipmakers plunging. Friday brought a partial recovery, with the Nasdaq gaining 1.1%.

  • Democrats' midterm election victories fueled investor fears that tighter AI regulations could slow data center construction and chip demand. Nvidia dropped over 9% on Thursday, while AMD plunged 17%.

  • Friday's rebound couldn't undo the damage, with the S&P 500 still losing 2.7% for the week. Meanwhile, stronger-than-expected October jobs data added another headache: the possibility of higher interest rates.

🛒 Amazon now lets you text Alexa to shop ↗️LINK

  • Amazon launched text messaging for Alexa for Shopping on Friday, letting invited US customers search, compare, and buy products by text. Amazon plans to open it to millions more in the coming weeks.

  • The launch follows Amazon blocking Meta’s Muse agent in September, saying Muse accessed its store without permission. It lands just before the holiday rush and can track prices, manage lists, and search by photo.

  • DoorDash says outside AI agents placed only several hundred orders in total, versus 993 million orders last quarter. It’s doubling down on its own text agent, and Amazon is clearly running the same play.

🧩 Meta launches Spaces for its Muse AI agents ↗️LINK

  • Meta has launched Spaces for its Muse AI agents, letting users create dedicated project hubs for vacation planning, wedding checklists, gift tracking, and other tasks directly from the Muse sidebar.

  • Users can describe what they need, and Muse builds planners, trackers, or boards. Meta says connections to third-party apps can automatically surface changes like concert dates, prices, and savings progress.

  • Meta says Muse hit 10 million users across the U.S. and Canada by October, while Muse Voice arrived just a day before Spaces. The cuddly assistant now has more than a cute face.

📺 LG faces legal action over TV spying ↗️LINK

  • Portuguese consumer group Citizens Voice took LG to court, asking judges to pull some LG smart TVs from sale and fix others for free. It also named retailers FNAC and Worten in the case.

  • The case follows a September Gamers Nexus investigation claiming LG TVs could record audio while offline. LG denied spying, but Citizens Voice says LG’s statement skipped the offline audio tests and webOS security flaws.

  • Plot twist: a Northeastern study found LG’s webOS among just four platforms where tracking opt-outs fully worked. Samsung’s TV kept sending tracking-like traffic in all 30 opted-out tests of its own streaming service.

⚛️ AI solves 18-year-old quantum computing problem ↗️LINK

  • Physics research company PSI says its automated AI system solved the 18-year-old Aaronson-Ambainis conjecture, which concerns the limits of quantum computers’ advantage over classical machines, in just three days.

  • The system used a non-public Anthropic model to generate a mathematical proof, then refined it twice. Lean, a formal verification tool, checked the logic and accepted the final version.

  • The catch: researchers haven't completed independent peer review. Stanford mathematicians who proved a special case in August 2026 have offered feedback and are preparing a shorter explanation for wider scrutiny.
