Hand-picked news:
🎓 AI detectors is pushing students to write worse ↗️LINK
AI detection tools used in schools are reportedly encouraging students to simplify their writing to avoid being falsely flagged as AI-generated, sometimes penalizing advanced vocabulary, strong style, or confident prose.
In some cases, students who never intended to use AI began using tools defensively to test their own work against detectors after classmates were falsely accused of cheating.
Educators argue the detection-first approach creates backward incentives, turning writing into a performance aimed at avoiding algorithms rather than developing genuine skills, and suggest teaching responsible AI use instead of policing it.
⚖️ Anthropic sues U.S. government ↗️LINK
Anthropic filed a lawsuit in a California federal court against the U.S. government, challenging its designation as a supply-chain risk and accusing the administration of retaliating against the company for setting limits on AI use in mass surveillance and autonomous weapons.
The designation led to a directive requiring government agencies to stop using Anthropic’s technology within six months, with some agencies already cutting ties and ending contracts.
Anthropic argues the action violates its First and Fifth Amendment rights and exceeds executive authority, while several major partners say they will continue working with the company outside of Pentagon-related projects.
🤖 OpenAI robotics head resigns over Pentagon deal ↗️LINK
OpenAI robotics director Caitlin Kalinowski announced her resignation, saying the company’s Pentagon partnership was pushed through too quickly without clear guardrails around AI surveillance and lethal autonomy.
Kalinowski, who joined OpenAI from Meta in November to rebuild its robotics division, said her decision was “about principle, not people” regarding the company’s direction.
Her departure marks the first public resignation tied to the Pentagon deal, coming shortly after research VP Max Schwarzer left for Anthropic amid growing backlash from users and the AI community.
🧠 U.S. drafts rules to oversee global AI chip exports ↗️LINK
U.S. officials have drafted new rules that would require government approval for AI chip exports worldwide, putting companies like Nvidia and AMD under tighter oversight.
Smaller GPU shipments would face a simpler review process, while large AI clusters would trigger stricter scrutiny, including business disclosures and potential on-site inspections.
Deployments exceeding 200,000 GPUs in a single country would require involvement from the host government, signaling a broader effort by Washington to control global AI infrastructure through chip access.
🛒 Anthropic launches Claude Marketplace ↗️LINK
Anthropic introduced the Claude Marketplace, allowing enterprise customers to spend part of their existing Anthropic commitments on third-party software built with Claude, with no commission on transactions.
Early marketplace partners include Snowflake, Lovable, GitLab, Harvey, Replit, and Rogo, expanding the ecosystem of enterprise tools built on Claude.
The company also released two Claude Code features: local scheduled tasks that run while a desktop computer is awake and a new loop command that can execute recurring prompts for up to three days.
