Hand-picked news:

📉 Claude Code’s viral rise shakes software stocks ↗️LINK

  • Anthropic’s Claude Code is going viral with developers and hobbyists, raising fears that AI-built tools could replace traditional software and helping push a Morgan Stanley SaaS index down 15% year to date as stocks like Intuit, Adobe, and Salesforce fall sharply.

  • Founders and engineers are sharing eye-catching productivity wins, including Vercel’s CTO finishing a year-long project in a week and CEOs canceling hiring plans after becoming far more productive using Claude.

  • Investors are pulling back from software stocks regardless of valuation, worried that reliable subscription revenue weakens when AI can build custom tools on demand, pointing to either the start of a new “selfware” era or a hype-driven disruption.

💰 OpenAI revenue passes $20 billion ↗️LINK

  • OpenAI reported annualized revenue above $20 billion in 2025, up sharply from $6 billion in 2024 and just $2 billion in 2023, according to CFO Sarah Friar.

  • The revenue surge closely follows rapid growth in computing capacity, which expanded from 0.2 gigawatts in 2023 to 1.9 gigawatts in 2025, highlighting how infrastructure scale underpins the company’s business.

  • Friar said weekly and daily active users are at all-time highs, and noted that limited compute slowed adoption, reinforcing OpenAI’s view that revenue growth is directly tied to available infrastructure and support from partners like Microsoft.

🎬 Netflix switches to all-cash bid for Warner Bros. ↗️LINK

  • Netflix revised its offer to pay all cash for Warner Bros. Discovery, keeping the agreed $27.75 per share price and $82.7 billion valuation while aiming to simplify the deal and speed up a shareholder vote.

  • Netflix said it would fund the acquisition with cash, debt, and committed financing, arguing the all-cash structure gives shareholders more certainty compared with its earlier cash-and-stock proposal.

  • The move comes as rival bidder Paramount, backed by Skydance, pushes a higher $30 per share all-cash offer and escalates legal pressure, while WBD’s board continues to favor Netflix and warns that Paramount’s bid carries higher debt and financial risk.

📱 Asus may be exiting the smartphone business ↗️LINK

  • Asus chairman Jonney Shih said the company will not add new phone models for now, putting its Zenfone and ROG Phone lines on pause while it enters an “indefinite observation” of the market.

  • Shih left the door open to a future return and said Asus will continue supporting existing users, but the statement suggests a real halt after years of declining momentum in its phone business.

  • Asus’s recent phones failed to stand out, with only the Zenfone 12 Ultra and ROG Phone 9 FE released in 2025 and neither launching in the US, despite the ROG Phone once being a top choice for gaming-focused users.

📺 Sony hands control of Bravia TVs to China’s TCL ↗️LINK

  • Sony is selling a 51 percent stake in its home entertainment and Bravia TV business to TCL, forming a joint venture set to begin operations in April 2027, pending approvals, while Sony retains a 49 percent share.

  • The new company will sell TVs under the Sony and Bravia brands, combining TCL’s display technology, manufacturing scale, and cost efficiency with Sony’s picture, audio, and brand expertise.

  • The move highlights pressure on Sony’s low-margin TV business amid fierce competition from rivals like Samsung and LG, marking a major shift for a brand long associated with premium TV innovation despite its historic leadership in display technology.
