Greetings! Your latest quick tech update is here:
☀️ On this day: On December 10, 1945, the ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer), one of the first general-purpose electronic digital computers, was completed and began its initial operations at the University of Pennsylvania. Funded by the U.S. Army during World War II, ENIAC could perform thousands of calculations per second — a remarkable leap forward at the time.

Hand-picked news:
🎨 ChatGPT gets free Adobe editing apps ↗️LINK
Adobe launched new Photoshop, Acrobat, and Adobe Express apps inside ChatGPT, letting users edit photos, PDFs, and designs through simple instructions without switching platforms, all at no cost.
These integrated apps support tasks like blurring backgrounds, adjusting image settings, editing or converting PDFs, and creating or modifying graphics, with optional UI controls and the ability to continue projects later in Adobe’s native software.
Available globally across desktop, web, and iOS — with Android support expanding — the rollout strengthens both Adobe and OpenAI against competitors like Google’s Gemini and advances Adobe’s push toward conversational, AI-driven creative tools.
🎛️ Instagram gives more control over Reels algorithm ↗️LINK
Instagram is rolling out “Your Algorithm,” an AI-powered tool that lets users view and edit the topics the platform believes they’re interested in, giving them more direct control over which videos appear in Reels.
The feature, accessible via a two-hearts icon on Reels, shows an AI-generated list of interests that users can remove, adjust, or add to, and also share to their Stories; it’s available in the US now and expanding globally in English soon.
Meta plans to extend similar customization tools to the Explore tab, Threads, and other surfaces, adding more ways for users to explain why content is irrelevant and refine their feeds over time.
🚫 Australia enforces world-first social media ban for teens ↗️LINK
Australia has become the first country to block social media access for all users under 16, ordering major platforms like TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook to remove underage accounts or face steep fines, marking a global test case for age-gating the internet.
The government argues the ban will reduce harms such as bullying, misinformation, and body-image pressure, but critics warn it threatens speech, risks isolating young people, and raises concerns about intrusive age-verification methods like selfies and ID checks.
Platforms are scrambling to comply, with hundreds of thousands of accounts already deactivated, while other countries watch closely to see whether this bold policy protects teens or creates new unintended consequences.
🔬 Microsoft AI turns tissue samples into cancer maps ↗️LINK
Microsoft open-sourced GigaTIME, an AI model that can extract thousands of dollars worth of tumor insights from a simple ten-dollar tissue slide, replacing lab processes that once required days of work.
Trained on 40 million cell samples from Providence Health and tested on 14,000 cancer patients, the model produced a virtual library of 300,000 detailed tumor images across 24 cancer types and uncovered 1,200 immune-related patterns.
The project shows how AI can transform routine medical data into large-scale insights, speeding up research and supporting treatment decisions without costly or time-intensive lab procedures.
📸 Amazon’s Ring rolls out AI facial-recognition feature ↗️LINK
Amazon is launching “Familiar Faces,” an opt-in feature that lets Ring doorbells identify up to 50 labeled visitors and send personalized alerts, but the rollout has sparked criticism from privacy advocates and a U.S. senator.
Although Amazon promises encrypted, non-shared face data and automatic deletion of unnamed faces after 30 days, skepticism is high due to Ring’s past security failures and its history of cooperation with law enforcement and surveillance partners.
Privacy groups warn that the feature could erode civil liberties, prompting calls for regulators to intervene, while some regions are blocking the tool under local biometric laws.
