Greetings! Your latest quick tech update is here:

☀️ On this day: On March 12, 1989, computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee submitted a proposal at CERN titled “Information Management: A Proposal.” The document described a system for linking and accessing information across computers using hypertext over the Internet. This idea eventually became the World Wide Web, introducing technologies like web pages, URLs, and the first web browser. The proposal, initially described as “vague but exciting,” laid the foundation for the modern web used by billions of people today.

  • Google introduced Ask Maps, a new Gemini-powered feature that lets users ask Google Maps complex, conversational questions like finding specific types of places or planning meetups with detailed preferences.

  • Gemini analyzes Maps data — including reviews, photos, and saved locations — to deliver personalized recommendations and can even help complete actions like booking a restaurant table with a single tap.

  • The feature is rolling out in the US and India on Android and iOS, alongside a major visual upgrade called Immersive Navigation with enhanced 3D buildings, terrain, and dynamic camera views during navigation.

📺 YouTube become the world’s largest media company ↗️LINK

  • YouTube generated $40.4 billion in ad revenue in 2025, surpassing Disney and exceeding the combined $37.8 billion from NBC, Paramount, and Warner Bros. Discovery.

  • The milestone marks a major shift from 2024, when YouTube earned $36.1 billion in ad revenue and still trailed the four major Hollywood studios’ combined $41.8 billion.

  • Alphabet reported YouTube’s total revenue reached $60 billion in 2025, fueled not only by ads but also by growing subscription services like YouTube TV, YouTube Premium, and NFL Sunday Ticket.

🖥️ Perplexity launches Personal Computer ↗️LINK

  • Perplexity introduced Personal Computer, a persistent AI agent that runs on a continuously powered Mac mini, giving its Comet Assistant 24/7 access to files, apps, and active sessions.

  • The system works as a secure local environment while still being controllable remotely from any device, allowing users to manage tasks and workflows from anywhere.

  • Perplexity describes the setup as a “persistent digital proxy of you,” designed to operate continuously and handle work across apps and systems without direct user involvement.

🏥 Amazon launches Health AI ↗️LINK

  • Amazon released Health AI, a healthcare assistant now available to all users on its website and app, expanding access beyond Prime and One Medical members.

  • The assistant can answer health questions, explain lab results, interpret medical records, manage prescription renewals, and help schedule medical appointments.

  • For more advanced care, users can connect directly to a One Medical provider through the system to receive treatment for more than 30 common health conditions.

🔓 1 billion identity records exposed in data leak ↗️LINK

  • Researchers discovered an unprotected MongoDB database tied to ID verification firm IDMerit that exposed roughly 1 billion sensitive records across 26 countries.

  • The leaked data included highly sensitive personal details such as names, home addresses, dates of birth, national ID numbers, phone numbers, emails, and in some cases Social Security numbers.

  • The database, discovered by Cybernews in November 2025, was quickly secured after researchers alerted the company, but the scale of the exposure raises concerns about potential identity theft if the data was copied.
